Kids grow so fast! Whether it's a pair of trousers, t-shirt or school jumper you’re kids will probably outgrow them in a term. Rising to the demand Patched Elephant is the UK's number one online local community for listing second hand school uniform and other school stuff.

The Challenge

Aside from the usual search engine challenges, the key challenge we faced with Patched Elephant was in the design. We really wanted to the site to be fun and colourful without being childish - appealing to both adults and kids.

Patched Elephant works in a completely different way to the usual e-commerce site as products are placed online by the public in an almost auction environment. This represented its own challenge and required significant modifications to our software.

The Solution

We took our Ignition platform and rewrote much of the product handling capabilities to enable the public to create and modify details and stock online.

We also took a colourful approach to the design, whilst maintaining standard website design practices to ensure familiarity when navigating the site.

Patched Elephant was great fun to work on and now enjoys 2nd position on Google and 3rd position on Yahoo for the key phrase "second hand school uniform".
